Extension offers course in couples relationships

Roses from Valentine’s Day eventually will wilt and the chocolates will be consumed. For a long-lasting gift, consider elevating your relationship to the next level, suggest human sciences specialists with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

ELEVATE is a couples’ education curriculum, offered virtually, that blends practical skills with an understanding of the physiology of human interaction to enhance healthy relationship knowledge and skills. The course is for all couples who are planning to be married, living together, or entering into a step-family relationship. The course examines seven core skills that have been found essential to maintaining healthy and stable relationships. Many practical and helpful strategies and tools are taught, as well as activities that help couples regulate their heart-brain response to stressful situations. Since the classes are virtual, individuals or couples can learn and practice from the comfort of home.

ISU Extension and Outreach is offering a virtual ELEVATE for four Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, beginning March 23. Danielle Day and Malisa Rader, human sciences specialists in family wellbeing, will conduct this program. There is a $99 per individual or $175 per couple program cost that includes couples’ workbook and worksheets sent by mail. Persons who want more information can contact Rader at 515-708-0622 or mrader@iastate.edu or the Greene County ISU Extension and Outreach office at 515-386-2138. “The prosperity of families and communities can be strongly influenced by the health and stability of adult relationships,” noted Day.

“We also know that the welfare of Iowa’s children can be greatly enhanced when parents develop healthy relationship skills that result in healthier and more stable families,” added Rader.
